Zhūhǎi (珠海) is a new city in the extreme south of China. It is situated right beside Macau SAR and just a short hop accross the Perl River from Senzhen and Hong Kong. The city falls under the administration of Guangdong Province and Zhuhai is easily reached by road or rail from Guangzhou city. Zhuhai was, in 1980, the second Special Economic Zone created with the opening up of China. Prior to that time, it was a rural area. The city developed quickly and it's location near the then foreign controlled cities of Macau and Hong Kong, made it a magnet for trade. Zhuhai continues to grow at a rapid rate to this date.
