As a place of residence for Westerners during Xiamen's colonial past, Gulangyu is famous for its architecture and for hosting China's only piano museum, giving it the nickname of &quot;Piano Island&quot; or &quot;The Town of Pianos&quot; (鋼琴之鄉) or &quot;The Island of Music&quot; (音樂之島). There are over 200 pianos on this island. (厦门市鼓浪屿风景名胜区; xiàmén gǔlàngyǔ lǚyóuqū): Gulangyu, Xiamen, Fujian, China. 厦门, 福建. Accessed by ferry from the south west of Xiamen city. Phone: 0592 2066821, 2060777. A small island, just of the coast of of Xiamen city. This used to be the International port known to the world as Amoy. Now a major tourist attaction for it. This tourist attraction is rates as AAAAA on China's national tourism scale. Entry is free though the return ferry back to Xiamen costs 8 yuan. Within the island many parks and museums have their own entry fees.
