Jiayuguan 嘉峪关

Jiayuguan Heritage Area (嘉峪关市嘉峪关文物景区; jiāyùguān wénwù jǐngqū): Jiayuguan City, Gansu, China. Just a short distance from the Jiayuguan city centre. Bus No.1 runs past the fort on route between the city centre and the train station. Jiayuguan is the fortress at the extreme western end of the Ming Great Wall of China. Depending on your direction of travel, this is either the first or last gate in the Great Wall. Its position on the ancient silk road trading route made it an important location. The city of Jiayuguan slowly developed beside the fortress to take advantage of the trade. This tourist attraction is listed as a UNESCO World Herritage Site.
